A fashion blogger that I follow did a blog like this a few days ago and I decided to do something similar but I had my 11 year old daughter think of the questions to ask me. (she is super into fashion - she gets it honestly). She got very serious about the questions and I think she came up with some good ones.
Who are your fashion icons? ( I had to help her with that word - she asked whose fashion do I love the most) So I would say I have 3 fashion icons and I love them for all different reasons. First would be Rachel Zoe - she is everything I want to be but can't seem to pull off. I love her look of wide leg jeans, cute little jackets, big floppy hats and tons upon tons of gold jewelry. Next would be Kate Moss - her street style is just soooo good - so much black, skinny jeans, tees, leather jackets and tons of fur. And finally I have to go with my sister in law Cheryl - her style is pure Florida - flowy blouses, skinny jeans, great heels and wedges, amazing bags and sunglasses.
What are the favourite things you own? Oh gosh - that's a tough one - I would have to say my Valentino Rock Stud bag, my Ippolita link bracelet that I wear almost every day and my wedding rings that I just had redone and can't stop staring at. But I really try not to have favourites when it comes to my closet…lol...
What are your favourite stores? - Well Hangar 9 of course because I used to work there and my friends work there and they are sooo good at finding me the most amazing pieces. Nordstrom in Tampa and online because again I love the people that work there and there is such a great range of high end and middle of the line clothing for every style. Neiman Marcus in Tampa because of the fabulous stylist Raymond Oliver - he can literally find me anything I ever want. Lilly Pulitzer for my summer beach staples. And online I have started shopping a lot more at Intermix and SSense because I can get products in Canadian dollars.
What do you splurge on? - Bags for sure…I would spend any amount of money on a bag that I could afford. Shoes - same thing because shoes finish off an outfit and can make an outfit go from okay to amazing. (and you never get too chubby for your shoes - they always love you). Lastly anything fur or leather - I won't hesitate to spend 1200.00 on a pair of leather jeans or 1800.00 on a leather jacket. I love anything fur - collars, jackets, vests….it's so warm and so chic.
What are you loving for fall? - Anything burgundy….I just bought the cutest open shoulder Elizabeth and James top in burgundy, a cute Iro tee in burgundy, a Fallon choker in burgundy….the list goes on - I'm back into wearing gorgeous blouses again after taking a year or two off and lastly and most important Chokers…I have 3 so far and I'm not stopping there. If you don't have a choker yet - run out immediately and get one.
If you could afford to wear ANY designer who would it be? - That's another tough question….Balmain for sure for their mini dresses - I covet every single one I see. Chanel jackets and bags - timeless and classic. I would kill for a red Valentino gown. Anything Missoni - those knits are so gorgeous and again timeless and classic. Hmm….I'm still thinking and could probably go on and on.
How would you describe your style? - I have two very distinct styles depending on the season. Spring and Summer I embrace colour - maxi dresses, Lilly Pulitzer, great bathing suit coverups, more maxi dresses, Valentino and Haviana flip flops, gold jewelry, jumpsuits. In the fall and winter I am all about black, black and more black with a tiny bit of burgundy, navy and red. Skinny jeans, flowy blouses, leggings with over the knee boots, structured leather jackets and tons of silver jewelry.
What do you own way too much of? - Avah said I should say shoes but I totally disagree with her - my shoe collection should be much better…so my answer is sunglasses - I went on a huge sunglass buying spree this spring and ended up with 9 new pairs on top of the 10 or 12 I already had. I sometimes base my outfits around which sunnies I feel like wearing. I have everything from Rayban aviators to Tom Ford big black to Valentino chic to Celine rose gold to Maui Jims for the beach, Dior gorgeous silver sunnies and the list goes on and on.
What do you hate spending money on? - Honestly this is going to sound weird but the two things I hate spending money on are undergarments and workout clothing. I know , I know - having amazing fitting bras is sooo important and actually on my next shopping expedition new bras is on my list but spending 150.00 on a bra just chaps my ass - lol…it's like getting new windows or a roof on your house - something you have to have. Walking into Lulu Lemon actually causes me pain knowing that 500.00 later I will have 3 pairs of leggings and two tights - I just hate forking out money for that stuff even though I wear it to the gym almost every day.
And number 10 - where did I learn about fashion and how did I get to be this fashion addict? - this question made me laugh because it was a process of evolution. First of all - my Mom has always been into fashion. My memories of being a child are of her and my dad going out every Saturday night and my mom walking down our curving staircase in her leather outfits with her huge mink fur smelling like Obsession perfume. From the time I started working at age 12 I loved to shop - in those days it was Fairweather and Le Chateau. Once I met my sister in law she really influenced my style and my love of clothing. She is always so perfectly put together and I wanted to be like that. And finally once I met my friends at Hangar 9 - they really introduced me to the brands that I love most and how to dress for my body type and the fact that even though I might love a look, it just might not work on me.
So hopefully these 10 question and answers have taught you a bit more about me and the things I like and what you can expect to see lots of on the coming blogs.
PS - the picture above is an oldie but a goodie so I thought I would post it today. Taken by the fabulous Bree Caspi.
